Overview
Perini Navi Cup tourbillon with function selector and torque indicator
The RM 014 was Richard Mille’s first watch drawn from sailing rather than motorsport. It was introduced in 2006 to mark the brand as official timekeeper of the Perini Navi Cup, and its design derives from the Maltese Falcon, an 88-metre three-masted yacht built at the Perini Navi shipyards.
The movement is a manual winding tourbillon indicating hours and minutes, with a function selector, a power-reserve indicator and a torque indicator. The baseplate is carbon nanofibre. The case material is not recorded; the reference was made in white gold, red gold and platinum.

Design and engineering
- Carbon nanofibre baseplateAs on the RM 003-V2 and the RM 006, the movement baseplate is carbon nanofibre — an isotropic composite with mechanical, physical and chemical stability when moulded under high pressure, giving improved rigidity between plate and bridges.
- Function selectorA pusher in the crown selects winding, neutral and hand-setting in the manner of a car gearbox, with a hand near 4 o’clock indicating the mode.
- Torque indicatorShows the tension of the mainspring, so that winding can be kept within the range in which the movement runs most efficiently.
- Central bridge in rigidified ARCAPThe ribs of the central bridge give greater rigidity to the baseplate and bridge assembly.
- Escapement and tourbillonA new in-line escapement design reduces friction; the tourbillon cage runs on a ceramic endstone, intended to eliminate wear over the long term.
- Going trainThe winding barrel teeth and third-wheel pinion carry a central involute profile giving a 20° pressure angle, which compensates for variations in the engagement of the going train.
