Overview
The retrograde calendar seen through its dial
The Patek Philippe Grand Complications Retrograde Perpetual Calendar, reference 6159G-001, in white gold with a grey-metallised sapphire crystal dial, black-gradient rim, white gold faceted baton markers and dauphine hands, on a black composite strap. Self-winding calibre 26-330 S QR with retrograde date hand; 39.5 mm, 11.49 mm high; hobnail guilloché on bezel and case back.
The reference 6159G-001 is Patek Philippe's perpetual calendar with retrograde date hand in a white gold case, presented by the brand as a contemporary reading of the model. The dial is sapphire crystal with a grey metallisation and a black-gradient rim, so the movement shows through it, and the bezel and case back carry hobnail (clous de Paris) guilloché, a pattern Patek Philippe counts among the emblems of its style. The case measures 39.5 mm across and 11.49 mm high, on a black composite strap with the brand's patented triple-blade fold-over clasp in white gold.
The self-winding calibre 26-330 S QR shows the date by a retrograde hand — one that returns to its start rather than continuing round the dial — with the day, month and leap year in apertures and the moon phases in their own display, and sweep seconds from the centre. On the sapphire dial the day, leap year, month and date indications and the moon phases are underlined by a grey electroplated outline, with the date transfer-printed in white. The movement winds through a 21K gold central rotor and measures 28 mm across and 5.36 mm high, with 368 parts and 31 jewels; it runs at 28,800 semi-oscillations an hour on a Gyromax® balance with a Spiromax® balance spring, for a power reserve of 35 to 45 hours, and carries the Patek Philippe Seal.
For collectors
The transparent dial is what Patek Philippe leads with: the metallised sapphire shows the movement from the front, with the calendar indications drawn onto it in a grey outline rather than printed on an opaque plate. The hobnail guilloché on both bezel and case back is a finish the brand associates with its own style.
