Overview
The Celestial, as it was listed
The Patek Philippe Grand Complications Celestial, reference 6102R-001, in rose gold with a moving sky chart of the northern sky, on a shiny black alligator strap. Patek Philippe no longer lists the reference in its current collection. Self-winding calibre 240 LU CL C with date by hand; 44 mm, 10.58 mm high.
The reference 6102 is the Celestial: Patek Philippe's self-winding astronomical wristwatch, which the brand places in its tradition of astronomical watches. Its dial is a moving sky chart showing the configuration of the night sky in the northern hemisphere at any time, with the visible movement of the stars and the position and phases of the Moon, and a date read by a hand. Patek Philippe no longer lists the reference in its current collection. The case is 44 mm across and 10.58 mm high, water-resistant to 30 m, with a sapphire crystal back.
The calibre 240 LU CL C is wound by a 22K gold off-centre minirotor and measures 38 mm across and 6.81 mm high, with 305 parts and 45 jewels; it runs at 21,600 semi-oscillations an hour (3 Hz) on a Gyromax® balance with a Spiromax® balance spring, with 38 to 48 hours of power reserve, under the Patek Philippe Seal. It shows the hours and minutes of mean solar time on skeletonised leaf-shaped hands in white gold, and drives the sky chart, an ellipse marking the part of the sky visible for a given latitude, the meridian with the passage times of Sirius and the Moon, the Moon's angular motion and its phases.
