The Aquanaut as a flyback chronograph
The Patek Philippe Aquanaut Chronograph, reference 5968G-001, in white gold with a sunburst blue dial, black-gradient rim and embossed Aquanaut pattern, on a midnight blue composite strap. Self-winding calibre CH 28-520 C, flyback chronograph with 60-minute counter at 6 o'clock and date in an aperture; 42.2 mm from 10 to 4 o'clock, 11.9 mm high.
The white gold execution carries a sunburst blue dial with the black-gradient rim, white gold applied numerals and white gold baton hands with white luminescent coating, on a midnight blue composite strap with a white gold patented fold-over clasp secured by four independent catches. Patek Philippe presents the 60-minute counter at 6 o'clock as echoing the rounded octagonal bezel.
The reference 5968 is the Aquanaut Chronograph, the collection's self-winding flyback chronograph, which Patek Philippe presents as the sportiest of complications. The dial carries the embossed Aquanaut pattern, and the composite strap closes with a patented fold-over clasp in white gold.
The calibre CH 28-520 C is a flyback chronograph with a vertical clutch: 30 mm across, 6.63 mm high, 308 parts and 32 jewels, wound by a 21K gold central rotor. The chronograph hand runs from the centre and elapsed minutes are counted at 6 o'clock, with the date in an aperture; flyback means the running chronograph can be returned to zero and restarted without a separate stop and reset. It beats at 28,800 semi-oscillations an hour on a Gyromax® balance with a Spiromax® balance spring, for a power reserve of 45 to 55 hours, and carries the Patek Philippe Seal.
