The Aquanaut as a flyback chronograph
The Patek Philippe Aquanaut Chronograph, reference 5968A-001, in steel with a sunburst charcoal grey dial, black-gradient rim and the chronograph indications in orange, delivered with black and orange composite straps. Self-winding calibre CH 28-520 C, flyback chronograph with 60-minute counter and date at 3 o'clock; 42.2 mm from 10 to 4 o'clock, 11.9 mm high.
The reference 5968 is the Aquanaut Chronograph, the collection's self-winding flyback chronograph, which Patek Philippe presents as the sportiest of complications. The dial carries the embossed Aquanaut pattern, and the composite strap closes with a patented fold-over clasp in steel.
The calibre CH 28-520 C is a flyback chronograph with a vertical clutch: 30 mm across, 6.63 mm high, 308 parts and 32 jewels, wound by a 21K gold central rotor. The chronograph hand runs from the centre and elapsed minutes are counted at 6 o'clock, with the date in an aperture; flyback means the running chronograph can be returned to zero and restarted without a separate stop and reset. It beats at 28,800 semi-oscillations an hour on a Gyromax® balance with a Spiromax® balance spring, for a power reserve of 45 to 55 hours, and carries the Patek Philippe Seal.
For collectors
It is delivered with two straps, black and orange, the orange picking up the chronograph indications on its dial. The 60-minute counter sits at 6 o'clock, which Patek Philippe presents as echoing the rounded octagonal shape of the bezel.
