Overview
An Annual Calendar in the Aquanaut case
The Patek Philippe Aquanaut Annual Calendar, reference 5261R-001, in rose gold with an opaline blue-grey dial and embossed Aquanaut pattern, on a blue-grey composite strap. Self-winding calibre 26-330 S QA LU with day and month by hands, date in an aperture and moon phases; 39.9 mm from 10 to 4 o'clock, 10.94 mm high.
The reference 5261R-001 is the Aquanaut Annual Calendar with moon phases in rose gold, which Patek Philippe presents as the first Annual Calendar in the Aquanaut collection. It carries a complete day, date and month calendar with the moon phases, on an opaline blue-grey dial with the embossed Aquanaut pattern, matched by a blue-grey composite strap with a rose gold patented fold-over clasp. The case is 39.9 mm from 10 to 4 o'clock and 10.94 mm high, finished in contrasting polished and satin surfaces, with a sapphire crystal back.
The calibre 26-330 S QA LU is self-winding, 32 mm across and 5.32 mm high, with 319 parts and 34 jewels, wound by a 21K gold central rotor. The Annual Calendar is a mechanism Patek Philippe says Patek Philippe invented and patented: it follows the months of differing length on its own and needs only one manual correction a year, at the end of February. The day is read at 3 o'clock and the month at 9 o'clock by hands, in what Patek Philippe calls an inverted display, with the moon phases at 12 o'clock and the date in an aperture at 6 o'clock. It beats at 28,800 semi-oscillations an hour on a Gyromax® balance with a Spiromax® balance spring, for a power reserve of 35 to 45 hours, and carries the Patek Philippe Seal.
For collectors
Patek Philippe's own measure of the reference is that it is the Aquanaut collection's first Annual Calendar, and its layout — day and month by hands at 3 and 9 o'clock, the moon at 12, the date at 6 — is what Patek Philippe calls an inverted display, the calendar hands sitting where a chronograph would put its counters.
