Overview
Day, date and month in one line
The Patek Philippe in-line perpetual calendar, reference 5236P-001, in platinum with a blue vertical-satin dial, black-gradient rim and white gold faceted baton-style markers and hands, on a shiny navy blue alligator strap. Self-winding calibre 31-260 PS QL with day, date and month in one aperture; 41.3 mm, 11.07 mm high.
The retired 5236P-001 carries a blue dial with a vertical satin finish and a black-gradient rim, with white gold faceted baton-style hour markers and hands, on a shiny navy blue alligator strap with a platinum fold-over clasp. Patek Philippe no longer lists the reference in its current collection.
The reference 5236 is Patek Philippe's in-line perpetual calendar: the day, the date and the month read left to right in a single wide aperture at 12 o'clock, a display the brand describes as patented and as its own. It sits in the Grand Complications collection in a platinum case, 41.3 mm across and 11.07 mm high, fully polished, with a brilliant-cut diamond set into the case at 6 o'clock.
The movement is the self-winding calibre 31-260 PS QL, which winds through a platinum off-centre minirotor and which Patek Philippe calls ultra-thin: 34 mm across, 5.8 mm high, 503 parts and 55 jewels. Patek Philippe says three patent applications have been filed for the mechanism that drives the in-line display; around it sit the leap year and day/night indications in round apertures, with the moon phases and small seconds together at 6 o'clock. It runs at 28,800 semi-oscillations an hour on a Gyromax® balance with a Spiromax® balance spring, for a power reserve of 38 to 48 hours, and carries the Patek Philippe Seal.
For collectors
The in-line display is the point of the 5236: day, date and month read as one line, which Patek Philippe presents as a patented feat of its own.
