Overview
Two time zones in the Aquanaut case
The Patek Philippe Aquanaut Travel Time, reference 5164G-001, in white gold with an opaline blue-grey dial and embossed Aquanaut pattern, on a blue-grey composite strap. Self-winding calibre 26-330 S C FUS with local and home time, day/night apertures and date coupled to local time; 40.8 mm from 10 to 4 o'clock, 10.2 mm high.
The reference 5164 is the Aquanaut Travel Time, the collection's two-time-zone watch, and Patek Philippe presents its Travel Time mechanism as what sets the reference apart. The case is 40.8 mm from 10 to 4 o'clock and 10.2 mm high, with a screw-down crown and a sapphire crystal back, and the composite strap closes with a patented fold-over clasp in the case metal.
Inside is the self-winding calibre 26-330 S C FUS: 31 mm across, 4.82 mm high, 290 parts and 29 jewels, wound by a 21K gold central rotor. Two hour hands read from the centre — a solid hand for local time and a skeletonised hand for home time — with a day/night indication for each in its own aperture. The date is coupled to local time and read by a hand, and local time is adjusted by pushers integrated into the case. The balance is a Gyromax® with a Spiromax® balance spring at 28,800 semi-oscillations an hour, for a power reserve of 35 to 45 hours, and the movement carries the Patek Philippe Seal.
For collectors
Patek Philippe singles out the date being indexed to local time: when the pushers move the local hand, the date follows, so the calendar needs no separate correction on arrival. The 4.82 mm calibre and the 10.2 mm case are where that added mechanism sits.
