The zodiac on the date train
The F.P. Journe Octa Zodiaque, reference Z, in platinum on a leather strap, with the slate grey 18K gold and whitened guilloché silver dial and blued steel hands. 40 mm and 10.6 mm high, self-winding calibre 1300 in brass, with central hours and minutes and the month and zodiac sign at 12.
The Octa Zodiaque was produced between 2004 and 2006 in a series numbered 1 to 150, in a 40 mm platinum case with a brass movement. François-Paul Journe meant it as a graphic reference to the stars, which have served as markers for calculating time and have shaped human beliefs. It is built on the Octa self-winding calibre and was, in the brand's account, the second model after the Octa Divine to carry central blued hour and minute hands.
The zodiac band of the sky chart is divided into twelve parts and bounded by two circles parallel to the ecliptic at an angle of 8.5°, within which the sun's apparent movement is shown. The watch takes its layout from it: an outer ring carrying the 12 hour graduations moves each day, driven by the large date mechanism, and brings the month and sign of the zodiac to 12 o'clock. The dial, in slate grey 18K gold and whitened guilloché silver, adds a power reserve indicator at 7:30, a large date at 11:30 and small seconds.

The large date system advances the month and zodiac ring each day, so the zodiac display is read off the same mechanism as the date.
