The Chronographe in the Ruthenium series
The F.P. Journe Octa Chronographe, reference C, from the limited Ruthenium series, in platinum on a leather strap with the ruthenium on gold and whitened guilloché silver dial. 40 mm and 10.6 mm high, self-winding on the Octa calibre 1300, with a flyback minutes-and-seconds chronograph and a large date.
Produced between 2002 and 2006, the Ruthenium Octa Chronographe was a limited series numbered 1 to 99: a 40 mm platinum case, a dial of ruthenium on gold and whitened guilloché silver, and the self-winding Octa calibre 1300 with a flyback chronograph and large date.
The chronograph counts minutes and seconds. Its seconds hand is central, the minutes counter sits at 9 o'clock, and the running seconds have their own subdial at 6, with the hours and minutes off-centre. A large date completes the display. The movement winds in both directions through an off-centre rotor and carries a slipping mainspring, which releases at full wind rather than being overstrained.

Design and engineering
- FlybackOne press sends the running counters back to zero and starts them again, so a new interval can be timed without stopping the chronograph first.
- Large dateThe date changes instantaneously. The crown sets it in position 2, turned one way or the other, and sets the time in position 3.
- Balance and escapementIn-line lever escapement with a 15-tooth wheel; free-sprung balance with four inertia weights, a flat Anachron microflamed spring on a laser-welded Nivatronic collet, a mobile stud holder and a pinned stud.
- FinishingCircular stripes on the bridges, partly circular-grained base plate, gilt engravings, polished screw heads with chamfered slots, pegs with polished rounded ends.
