The Octa, uncluttered
The F.P. Journe Divine Black Label, reference DN, in platinum with the blackened gold and whitened silver dial and rhodium-plated steel hands. 10.7 mm high, self-winding on calibre Octa 1300.3 in 18K rose gold, with central hours and minutes, instantaneous large date, sapphire moon disc and retrograde power reserve.
The Black Label version, produced between 2017 and 2023, sets the blackened gold and whitened silver dial in a platinum case with rhodium-plated steel hands. F.P. Journe ties the collection to its output of about 900 watches a year: it wanted a still more exclusive piece, offered only to people who already own one of its watches.
The Divine is an Octa moon-phase watch with central hours and minutes, drawn by F.P. Journe for a plain, legible dial. An instantaneous large date sits in enlarged windows on the gold dial; small seconds are read from a disc and the retrograde power reserve from a 120-hour scale; a sapphire disc carries the moon. A polished steel circle is screwed to the dial, and the hours ring mixes numerals of different sizes with red dots. F.P. Journe counts the sapphire moon disc, the hands and the screwed circle among its own signatures.
The movement is the Octa calibre 1300.3 in 18K rose gold, wound in one direction by an off-centre 22K 5N gold rotor on a self-locking ball bearing. Journe built the Octa around a long mainspring on the same level as the train and escapement, rather than an extra wheel in the train, so that energy still reaches a full-sized balance late in the reserve. A dedicated wheel train drives the moon, and date and moon are set from the crown, each by turning it the opposite way.
For collectors
Two reserve figures appear, and they measure different things. F.P. Journe quotes 120 hours of precision timekeeping, the span of the retrograde reserve scale on the dial, and 160 ± 10 hours as the effective reserve.
