The 1983 tourbillon on the wrist
The F.P. Journe 30 Years Anniversary Tourbillon, reference T30, in guilloché silver and 18K 4N gold on a leather strap, with a grained silver dial engraved and filled, and blued Breguet hands. 40 mm, manually wound calibre 1412 in gilded brass: a tourbillon with off-centre hours and minutes and small seconds at 6.
To mark thirty years of work, F.P. Journe went back to the first pocket watch François-Paul Journe made, a tourbillon of 1983, and remade it as a wristwatch. It was produced in 2013 and 2014 in a series numbered 1 to 99 and first shown on 18 October in Tokyo, where the first F.P. Journe Boutique was marking its tenth anniversary. The brand says the anniversary was the first time Journe presented that pocket watch.
The materials follow the original: a case of guilloché silver with gold bezels, and a movement in grained and gilded brass. Calibre 1412 keeps the classic construction of 1983, two barrels in parallel feeding a train laid out along the axis of the watch to a tourbillon that turns once a minute. Two things were changed for the wrist: a lateral lever escapement replaces the original's detent, and a crown at 3 o'clock replaces winding and setting by key.
For collectors
The changes from the 1983 original are functional rather than decorative: the lever escapement and the crown are what make the construction usable on the wrist. The dial, grained silver with engraved and filled Roman numerals inside a steel hour circle, and the blued Breguet hands are given by the brand as identical to the pocket watch's.
