The reference 86073 is Vacheron Constantin's Métiers d'Art piece The Legend of the Chinese Zodiac - Year of the Horse, built on the same case, dial and calibre in two metals: platinum with a dark blue alligator strap, and pink gold with a brown strap. Hand-engraving raises an 18K gold horse in relief over a rocky base on both executions, worked against a background of opaque miniature enamel depicting other wildlife; the brand's own account frames the horse as a traditional emblem of vitality and freedom in Chinese culture, given as an auspicious gift. Each case is 40 mm across and 12.72 mm high, with a transparent sapphire case back, water-resistant to 30 m, and each is a limited edition the brand credits to its own engravers and enamellers.
Both executions share the self-winding calibre 2460 G4/3, which drives the aperture displays alone: hours, minutes, day and date are each read from a tone-on-tone disc rather than from hands crossing the dial.
