Richard Mille RM 72-01 WG Baguette Setting
Size
38.40 × 47.34 × 11.68 mm

Overview

Baguette-set white gold case

Baguette-cut stones run across the bezel, caseband and lugs of a white gold case, over a red gold inner flange, with black pushers and a white rubber strap.

Baguette names the CUT of the stones rather than the extent of the coverage, which is what distinguishes this execution from the mid and snow settings on the two cards that follow it.

This record and card 488 are the same watch photographed twice. 488 carries the reference string "RM 72-01 FQ LMC", two suffixes that describe neither a set case nor a white gold one, and its metal was deliberately left unnamed. This card’s label supplies it.

Design and engineering

  • Calibre CRMC1Skeletonised movement with automatic bidirectional winding, hours, minutes, small seconds, date, flyback chronograph, function indicator and stop seconds. It is 6.05 mm thick, comprises 425 components, runs on 39 jewels at 28,800 vph (4 Hz), and provides around 50 hours of power reserve regardless of how much the chronograph is used.
  • Baguette settingRectangular step-cut stones across the bezel, caseband and lugs, with the case screws left proud of the setting.
  • Flyback chronograph with two oscillating pinionsPatented by Richard Mille and the first chronograph to use two oscillating pinions. The pinions are mounted on rockers actuated by a six-column wheel, and draw power directly from the barrel rather than through the timekeeping gear train, so that the chronograph’s three counters are supplied at the point where torque is greatest and the display is disengaged from the chronograph’s seconds wheel. Richard Mille specifies the arrangement as thinner than a vertical clutch and less sensitive to disturbance.
  • Baseplate and bridgesGrade 5 titanium — 90% titanium, 6% aluminium, 4% vanadium — microblasted with a grey electroplasma treatment.
  • Platinum rotorBidirectional and compact, allowing efficient winding within the movement’s height.
  • Fast-rotating barrelOne revolution every five hours, which Richard Mille specifies for reduced periodic internal mainspring adhesion and smoother power delivery.
  • Tripartite case38.40 × 47.34 × 11.68 mm, water-resistant to 30 m via three nitrile O-ring seals, assembled with 20 grade 5 titanium spline screws and abrasion-resistant 316L stainless steel washers.
