Overview
Le Mans Classic colours in green and white Quartz TPT
Richard Mille has been associated with the Le Mans Classic since 2002 and has made a watch for every edition of the meeting since 2008, each in the event’s colours. This RM 72-01 execution, limited to 150 pieces, celebrates the centenary of the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2023 with a combination of green and white Quartz TPT®.
The chequered-flag pattern features on the titanium dial, and the 16 on the hour counter is underlined in red, a nod to the traditional start time of the endurance race. The movement is the in-house calibre CRMC1.

Design and engineering
- Calibre CRMC1Skeletonised movement with automatic bidirectional winding, hours, minutes, small seconds, date, flyback chronograph, function indicator and stop seconds. It is 6.05 mm thick, runs on 39 jewels at 28,800 vph (4 Hz), and provides around 50 hours of power reserve regardless of how much the chronograph is used.
- Quartz TPT® caseSilica threads divided into layers no thicker than 45 microns, saturated in resins developed for Richard Mille, stacked with the fibre orientation rotated 45° between plies, cured at 120°C under 6 bar and machined in-house. The blend is exposed by machining, so the pattern differs on every case.
- Flyback chronograph with two oscillating pinionsPatented by Richard Mille. Power is drawn directly from the barrel to supply the chronograph’s three counters and is transmitted to the chronograph train by two oscillating pinions mounted on rockers, activated by a six-column wheel; the display is disengaged from the chronograph’s seconds wheel. Less sensitive to disturbance and less voluminous than standard mechanisms, it leaves the rate of the base movement unaffected when the chronograph is running.
- Baseplate and bridgesGrade 5 titanium — 90% titanium, 6% aluminium, 4% vanadium — microblasted with a grey electroplasma treatment.
- Platinum rotorBidirectional and compact, allowing efficient winding within the movement’s height.
- Fast-rotating barrelOne revolution every five hours instead of 7.5, which significantly diminishes periodic internal mainspring adhesion and gives an excellent mainspring delta curve.
- Tripartite case38.40 × 47.34 × 11.68 mm, water-resistant to 30 m via three nitrile O-ring seals, assembled with 20 grade 5 titanium spline screws and abrasion-resistant 316L stainless steel washers.
