Overview

Monaco colours for the Formula 1 driver

This execution of the RM 72-01 was made for Charles Leclerc and released in 2025 in a limited edition of 150 pieces. The case combines red and white Quartz TPT®, the colours of Monaco, with red pushers and a white rubber strap, and the card’s material line matches.

The mechanical content is the standard RM 72-01: the calibre CRMC1, Richard Mille’s first fully in-house chronograph, with a flyback function and the patented double oscillating pinion coupling.

Design and engineering

  • Calibre CRMC1Skeletonised movement with automatic bidirectional winding, hours, minutes, small seconds, date, flyback chronograph, function indicator and stop seconds. It is 6.05 mm thick, comprises 425 components, runs on 39 jewels at 28,800 vph (4 Hz), and provides around 50 hours of power reserve regardless of how much the chronograph is used.
  • Flyback chronograph with two oscillating pinionsPatented by Richard Mille and the first chronograph to use two oscillating pinions. The pinions are mounted on rockers actuated by a six-column wheel, and draw power directly from the barrel rather than through the timekeeping gear train, so that the chronograph’s three counters are supplied at the point where torque is greatest and the display is disengaged from the chronograph’s seconds wheel. Richard Mille specifies the arrangement as thinner than a vertical clutch and less sensitive to disturbance.
  • Quartz TPT® caseSilica threads in layers no thicker than 45 microns, saturated in resins developed for Richard Mille, stacked with the orientation rotated 45° between plies, cured at 120°C under 6 bar and machined in-house. The layering is exposed by machining, so the striation differs on every case.
  • Baseplate and bridgesGrade 5 titanium — 90% titanium, 6% aluminium, 4% vanadium — microblasted with a grey electroplasma treatment.
  • Platinum rotorBidirectional and compact, allowing efficient winding within the movement’s height.
  • Fast-rotating barrelOne revolution every five hours, which Richard Mille specifies for reduced periodic internal mainspring adhesion and smoother power delivery.
  • Tripartite case38.40 × 47.34 × 11.68 mm, water-resistant to 30 m via three nitrile O-ring seals, assembled with 20 grade 5 titanium spline screws and abrasion-resistant 316L stainless steel washers.
