The samurai armour behind a transparent case
The case is sapphire throughout, so that the gold armour and the compact tourbillon calibre behind it read as though suspended, with the caseband pillars and the movement’s supports visible from every angle.
The armour is executed in the same eleven hand-carved and painted gold components as the ceramic version, arranged around a tourbillon deliberately kept small to leave the space for them. The strap is black rubber.

Design and engineering
- Sapphire caseMachined from blocks of sapphire, a material second only to diamond in hardness and correspondingly slow to cut and polish.
- Hand-carved armourEleven sculpted, engraved and partly painted 3N yellow gold components arranged around the tourbillon and visible from both the front and the back of the case. They took sixteen hours of engraving and nine hours of painting — more than a full day’s work per watch.
- Compact tourbillon calibreThe RM47 movement was designed smaller than it needed to be, specifically so that the armour would have room.
- Skeletonised grade 5 titanium baseplate and bridgesBlack PVD treated.
- Asano clan detailingThe crest of two crossed falcon feathers, associated with the clan to which the forty-seven rōnin belonged.
- Twin sapphire crystalsFront and back, in addition to the sapphire case, giving an unbroken view through the watch.
