Overview
A mechanical g-sensor that records a golf swing, 50 pieces
Following the RM 038, Richard Mille built a second tourbillon for Bubba Watson with a function aimed directly at his game. The RM 38-01 combines a tourbillon with a patented mechanical g-sensor, and was produced in an edition of 50 pieces.
The sensor sits under 12 o’clock and records the force generated during the last segment of a swing, up to 20 g. It contains more than 50 moving parts within 17 mm, and is reset to zero by the aerodynamically shaped pusher at 9 o’clock. The front and back bezels are green TZP-G ceramic over a rubberised titanium inner case, on a white rubber strap.

Design and engineering
- Mechanical g-sensorA Richard Mille world first, containing more than 50 moving parts within 17 mm. It records the accumulated motion of a swing in g and holds the reading until reset.
- Reset pusher at 9 o’clockShaped aerodynamically and set into the case flank; a single press returns the sensor to zero for the next swing.
- Calibre RM38-01Manual winding tourbillon with hours, minutes and the g-force indicator, running at 21,600 vph with around 48 hours of reserve.
- Skeletonised asymmetrical flying bridgesMachined from grade 5 titanium with PVD treatment, chosen for rigidity, flatness and resistance across all the moving parts.
- TZP-G ceramic bezelsA ceramic class based on microscopically fine grain structure, used here for the front and back bezels over a titanium inner case with a rubber casing for protection.
- Display casebackSapphire, giving a full view of the movement from the reverse.
