Black case and bezel with a red inner flange
The RM 055 Red Drive is a regional limited edition of the RM 055 Bubba Watson, released in 2013 for North and South America in a run of 30 pieces. Where the original RM 055 pairs a white ATZ ceramic bezel with a white rubberised titanium case middle, the Red Drive reverses the scheme: the caseband is grade 5 titanium with a black rubber coating, the bezel is black ceramic, and the crown is black DLC-treated titanium with rubber.
The red element is the inner flange that frames the skeletonised calibre RMUL2. A companion edition, the White Drive, was issued at the same time in the same case configuration with a white flange, also in 30 pieces. Both were distributed through authorised Richard Mille retailers in the Americas and the brand’s Beverly Hills and Las Vegas boutiques.

Design and engineering
- Calibre RMUL2A manual winding skeletonised movement indicating hours, minutes and seconds. The baseplate and bridges are grade 5 titanium, PVD- and Titalyt®-treated, a combination Richard Mille specifies for rigidity and for the surface flatness the going train requires. On this edition the movement is finished in black.
- Shock resistanceRichard Mille states the calibre withstands accelerations of over 500 g. The skeletonised baseplate and bridges were subjected to validation testing to establish their resistance limits before the design was fixed.
- Free-sprung variable-inertia balanceThe regulator index is eliminated. Rate adjustment is made by four small weights mounted directly on the balance, which Richard Mille specifies for repeatability of setting and for reliability through shock, assembly and disassembly.
- Double-barrel systemStored energy is distributed across two winding barrels rather than one. This increases the number of barrel rotations and reduces pressure on teeth, bearings and pivots, and supports the circa 55-hour power reserve.
- Case constructionThe three-part tonneau case is assembled with grade 5 titanium spline screws and abrasion-resistant 316L stainless steel washers, with sapphire crystals front and back. The ceramic is produced from tubes of aluminium oxide powder injected at a pressure of nearly 2,000 bar, a process Richard Mille states increases rigidity by 20 to 30% and reduces porosity to a minimum. Machining the curved bezel profile requires diamond tooling.
