Overview
Off-centre platinum micro-rotor in a 6.30 mm case
The RM 033 was introduced in 2011 as Richard Mille’s first ultra-thin round watch. The calibre RMXP1 places its automatic micro-rotor to the side of the movement rather than at the centre, which reduces overall height: the movement is 33.00 mm in diameter and 2.60 mm thick, and the round case measures 45.70 mm across by 6.30 mm.
The case is titanium, with a satin-finished bezel and lug set, an openworked dial showing the applied numerals and the skeletonised titanium bridges, and a black rubber strap.

Design and engineering
- Off-centre monobloc platinum micro-rotorPositioned to the side of the movement to save height, machined from solid platinum for weight in a small volume, and designed to wind bi-directionally so that the decentralised mass works efficiently.
- Free-sprung balance with variable inertiaThe regulator index is eliminated; regulation is by four small weights set directly on the balance.
- Titanium baseplate, bridges and balance cockGrade 5 titanium throughout, with Titalyt® treatment on the baseplate and black PVD coating on the bridges, giving rigidity and the surface flatness an ultra-thin gear train requires. The baseplate and all titanium parts were validation-tested separately for strength.
- Tripartite case with integrated lugsThe lugs are absorbed into the case system rather than applied. The case is assembled with 16 grade 5 titanium spline screws and abrasion-resistant 316L stainless steel washers, and is water resistant to 30 metres by two Nitrile O-ring seals.
- Ceramic crownSealed with double O-rings.
