The RM 030, introduced in 2011, carries a rotor that declutches automatically. When the power reserve reaches 50 hours, a specially developed gear system disengages the rotor from the winding barrel; when it falls back to 40 hours, the rotor clutches in again. The indicator at 12 o’clock shows whether the rotor is winding (on) or disengaged (off).

Design and engineering
- Declutchable rotorRichard Mille took four years to develop a rotor that declutches automatically, linked to the power-reserve indicator so that the mainspring is held at an ideal tension.
- Winding indicatorAt 12 o’clock, reading on while the rotor winds the barrel and off while it is disengaged.
- Titanium movementBaseplate and bridges in grade 5 titanium, wet sandblasted and Titalyt® treated; barrel bridges PVD coated.
- Case machiningThe case requires 86 swaging operations, including 49 striking, before its bezel, middle case and back are cut and milled. The empty case takes more than 255 tooling operations.
