Japan edition of the oversize date automatic
Richard Mille produced the RM 029 in editions for the Japanese market. The photograph on this record shows a dark layered composite case with a white strap and blue detailing, consistent with the NTPT executions rather than with the black ceramic one, which was also sold as a Japan edition.
The movement is the skeletonised calibre RMAS7 with the oversize date mechanism derived from the RM 011, a variable-geometry rotor driving two barrels, 32 jewels and a frequency of 4 Hz.

Design and engineering
- NTPT layered compositeThe material is built from filament sheets around 30 microns thick, stacked with the orientation changed between layers and cured under heat and pressure. Machining across the plies exposes the layer structure, so the surface pattern differs from case to case.
- Variable-geometry rotorGrade 2 titanium arms with adjustable 18k white gold ribs; repositioning the ribs alters the rotor’s inertia and so the winding rate.
- Titalyt®-treated baseplateGrade 5 titanium with a Titalyt® treatment for rigidity and surface flatness.
- Incabloc on both sidesThe balance carries Incabloc protection on the dial side as well as the movement side.
- Oversize date bridgeBlack PVD treated.
- Ten months of skeletonisationThe cut-away pattern of the baseplate was settled only after repeated testing, so that openworking cost nothing in strength.
