Red Quartz TPT® case on the dual time zone tourbillon
An RM 003-V2 with a red Quartz TPT® case, its layers showing as dark streaks through the red, on a black strap.
The RM 003 added a second time zone to the tourbillon. A sapphire disc at the centre of the movement carries black hours that seem to light up as they pass a white section at 3 o’clock. The zone is selected with the pusher at 9 o’clock. The V2 is the version built on a carbon nanofibre baseplate.

Design and engineering
- Central dual time zoneA sapphire crystal disc carries black hours that become visible over a white section at 3 o’clock. Richard Mille later used the idea in the date windows of the RM 005, 010, 016 and 023.
- Carbon nanofibre baseplateThe RM 003 became the first model after the RM 006 Felipe Massa to use a carbon nanofibre baseplate, known as the RM 003-V2.
- Red Quartz TPT®Silicon layers no thicker than 45 microns, treated with a red matrix made for Richard Mille, laid with the fibre direction turned 45° between layers and heated under pressure at 120 °C.
- TourbillonVisible through the dial at 6 o’clock.
