Overview
The Grandmaster Chime in blue opaline
The Patek Philippe Grandmaster Chime, reference 6300G-010, in white gold with two blue opaline dials: a double-face watch with 20 complications, five of them chiming modes, on the manually wound calibre 300 GS AL 36-750 QIS FUS IRM. Patek Philippe introduced this version in 2019.
The reference 6300G-010 is the Grandmaster Chime in white gold with two blue opaline dials. Patek Philippe describes the Grandmaster Chime as its most complicated wristwatch, with 20 complications; it was first presented as a rose gold limited edition for the manufacture's 175th anniversary in 2014 and joined the regular collection in 2016. The brand's November 2022 release says this white gold version with two blue opaline dials has been available since 2019. Patek Philippe no longer makes this reference.
The instructions for the reference describe a reversible white gold case decorated with the manufacture's hobnail pattern, one face for the time and the other for the calendar, and call the Ref. 6300 the first grande-sonnerie wristwatch added to the brand's current collection. Of its 20 complications, five are chiming modes, two of them patented acoustic firsts: grande and petite sonnerie, a minute repeater, an alarm that strikes the set time, and a date repeater. The manually wound calibre 300 GS AL 36-750 QIS FUS IRM is 37 mm across and 10.7 mm high, with 1,366 parts, 108 jewels and 32 bridges, and runs at 25,200 semi-oscillations an hour.
For collectors
Patek Philippe gives the going train and the strikework separate reserves: at least 72 hours for the watch from its double barrel, and 30 hours for the strikework in grande sonnerie mode, shorter if the minute and date repeaters are used often.
Key details
Design and engineering
- Strike modesA slide in the case flank at 9 o'clock selects grande sonnerie (the hours at each hour, and the hours then the quarters in triple strikes at each quarter), petite sonnerie (the quarters alone) or silence; a hand between 7 and 8 o'clock shows the mode chosen.
- Alarm and date repeaterThe alarm is set in quarter-hour steps, 30 minutes to 22 hours ahead, and sounds the time two minutes before the chosen quarter; the DATE pusher makes the watch strike the date on demand.
- Two facesThe time side carries the white gold hands; the calendar side holds the perpetual calendar, a 24-hour subdial at 12 o'clock and the moon, with pushers for a second time zone.
- WaterThe pushers for the repeaters, the mode selector and the alarm leave the case unprotected against moisture; Patek Philippe advises keeping liquid away from it.
