A skeletonised perpetual calendar in a square case
The Patek Philippe Cubitus, reference 5840P-001, in platinum with a baguette-cut diamond at 6 o'clock, an openworked sunburst blue dial laser-cut over the skeletonised square movement, white gold markers and hands, on a blue composite strap. Self-winding calibre 28-28 Q SQU with perpetual calendar and moon phases; 45 mm, 10 mm high.
The reference 5840P-001 is the perpetual calendar Cubitus, which Patek Philippe presents as the first Grand Complication in the collection: a platinum case, square with rounded edges, 45 mm on the diagonal from 10 to 4 o'clock and 10 mm high, with a baguette-cut diamond set at 6 o'clock, a screw-down crown and a sapphire crystal back. The dial is openworked — sunburst blue, cut by laser into fine strips in a horizontal line pattern — so that the square mainplate and skeletonised bridges of the calibre 28-28 Q SQU show through it, with applied markers and rounded baton hands in white gold under white luminescent coating, snailed counters with transfer-printed scales, and a moon Patek Philippe calls high-definition, metallised and laser-engraved. It is worn on a blue composite strap with a fabric pattern and cream stitching, closed by a platinum Cubitus fold-over clasp.
The calibre 28-28 Q SQU is a square movement, 28.5 × 28.5 mm and 5.04 mm high, with 313 parts and 27 jewels, self-winding through a rhodium-plated 22K gold off-centre minirotor engraved with the same horizontal lines as the dial and a Calatrava cross filled with blue varnish. The perpetual calendar shows day, date, month, leap year and a 24-hour indication by hands, with the moon phases, and is skeletonised: the mainplate and bridges are openworked, so the movement is seen from both sides — through the laser-cut dial and through the sapphire back, which shows the rhodium-plated balance, transparent jewels and blued screws. It runs at 21,600 semi-oscillations an hour on a Gyromax® balance with a Spiromax® balance spring, for a power reserve of 38 to 48 hours, and carries the Patek Philippe Seal.

A square calibre for a square case: Patek Philippe gives the movement as 28.5 × 28.5 mm, shaped to the Cubitus rather than a round movement fitted into it, and it is the perpetual calendar and the skeletonising together that the brand presents as the collection's first Grand Complication. The Calatrava cross in blue varnish on the rotor is a detail seen only from the back.
