The reference 5396 is Patek Philippe's Annual Calendar with moon phases in the Complications collection, the layout with the day and month side by side in a double aperture at the top of the dial and the date in its own aperture at 6 o'clock, which the brand describes as one of its famous references and greatest successes. The case is fully polished, 38.5 mm across and 11.2 mm high. The watch has faceted dauphine-style hands in white gold and an alligator strap with a fold-over clasp.
The self-winding calibre 26-330 S QA LU 24H carries the brand's Annual Calendar, a mechanism Patek Philippe describes as invented and patented by Patek Philippe, which needs a single correction a year, at the end of February. The day and month read together in the double aperture, the date below, and a 24-hour indication shares the sub-dial at 6 o'clock with the moon phases; the seconds sweep from the centre.
