Overview

A monopusher rattrapante with perpetual calendar

The Patek Philippe split-seconds chronograph with perpetual calendar, reference 5372P-001, in platinum with a blue sunburst dial and applied gold numerals, on the manually wound monopusher calibre CHR 27-525 PS Q, 7.30 mm high. Patek Philippe's October 2022 release lists the reference as retired.

The reference 5372P-001 is Patek Philippe's monopusher split-seconds chronograph with perpetual calendar in platinum with a blue sunburst dial. The brand's instructions for the reference describe a gold dial with a blue sunburst pattern and applied gold numerals, in a round platinum case with a concave bezel and countersunk, satin-finished flanks, the case form of the Ref. 5370 of 2015 and the Ref. 5374 of 2016. Patek Philippe's October 2022 release lists it, with the rose gilt 5372P-010, as retired from the collection.

The manually wound calibre CHR 27-525 PS Q refines the CHR 27-525 PS, which Patek Philippe describes as the world's thinnest monopusher rattrapante chronograph movement with column-wheel control, 5.25 mm high. It has two column wheels, a continuously running 60-minute counter and patented toothing profiles that reduce wear; the engineers filed two patent applications in making the perpetual calendar module thin enough to match. The complete calibre is 27.30 mm across and 7.30 mm high, with 476 parts and 31 jewels, and the 2022 release calls it the thinnest split-seconds chronograph movement with perpetual calendar the manufacture has made.

For collectors

Patek Philippe's 2022 release says the calibre has been made in very small numbers since 2017, and that after the retirement of the 5372P-001 and 5372P-010 the left-handed 5373P-001 is the only model that still carries it.

Design and engineering

  • Two pushers, three phasesThe pusher in the crown starts, stops and resets the chronograph and split-seconds hands together; the pusher at 2 o'clock works only the split-seconds hand, stopping it for a lap time and letting it catch up. Patek Philippe notes that most split-seconds chronographs need more pushers.
  • Perpetual calendarDate, day, month, leap-year indication, day/night indicator and moon phases. Patek Philippe states the moon phase departs from the true lunar cycle by one day every 122 years, and that a watch wound daily needs no calendar correction before 28 February 2100.
  • Case and dialRound platinum case with a concave bezel and countersunk, satin-finished flanks; gold dial with a blue sunburst pattern and applied gold numerals.
  • Hand finishingBridges à l'ancienne with polished chamfers and Geneva striping. Each calibre is assembled once as a trial (repassage en blanc), taken apart, cleaned and assembled again, as Patek Philippe describes.
