Overview
A perpetual calendar kept thin
The Patek Philippe Grand Complications Perpetual Calendar, reference 5327G-001, in white gold with a sunburst blue dial, white gold Breguet numerals and leaf-shaped hands, on a shiny navy blue alligator strap. Self-winding calibre 240 Q with the calendar by hands and the moon phases in an aperture; 39 mm, 9.71 mm high.
The reference 5327 is Patek Philippe's perpetual calendar on the self-winding calibre 240 Q, the movement the brand calls its famous ultra-thin automatic. It sits in the Grand Complications collection in a round case of the Calatrava type, 39 mm across and 9.71 mm high, with flanks scalloped from the case-middle to the lugs.
The thinness comes from the base movement. The calibre 240 winds through a 22K gold minirotor set off-centre and recessed into the movement, rather than a full rotor turning above it, so the calendar work adds height to a thin base rather than to a tall one: the complete calibre 240 Q is 3.88 mm high across 27.5 mm, with 275 parts and 27 jewels. The calendar itself is read by hands — day, date, month, leap year and a 24-hour indication — with the moon phases in an aperture. It runs at 21,600 semi-oscillations an hour on a Gyromax® balance and a Spiromax® balance spring, with a power reserve of 38 to 48 hours, and carries the Patek Philippe Seal.
For collectors
The point of the 5327 is a full perpetual calendar in a 9.71 mm case, which the brand attributes to the calibre 240's recessed minirotor. Patek Philippe describes the reference as a highly sought-after Grand Complication; that is its own characterisation rather than a market statement.
Key details
Design and engineering
- Calatrava-style caseRound and 39 mm across, with the scalloped decoration running from the case-middle into the lugs; Patek Philippe presents the scalloping as what gives the case its silhouette. Sapphire crystal case back, water-resistant to 30 m.
- Calendar by handsDay, date, month, leap year and the 24-hour indication are all shown by hands in sub-dials, with only the moon phases in an aperture — a layout that keeps the dial symmetrical and reads at a glance.
- DialSunburst blue with applied Breguet numerals and leaf-shaped hands, both in white gold; Patek Philippe notes the numerals as the dynamic touch of this execution.
- Strap and claspShiny navy blue alligator leather with square scales, hand-stitched, closed by a white gold fold-over clasp.
