Overview
The Chiming Jump Hour for the 175th anniversary
The Patek Philippe Chiming Jump Hour, reference 5275P-001, in an engraved tonneau-shaped platinum case: an anniversary edition of 175 watches for Patek Philippe's 175th celebration, with a jumping hour in an aperture, jumping minute and second, and an hour strike, on the manually wound calibre 32-650 HGS PS.
The reference 5275P-001 is the Patek Philippe Chiming Jump Hour, an anniversary edition made for the manufacture's 175th celebration and limited to 175 watches. Its engraved, tonneau-shaped platinum case holds four indications: the hour jumping in an aperture, a jumping minute, a jumping second, and a single strike on a gong at the top of each hour. Patek Philippe presents it as the successor in spirit to the Reference 3969, the tonneau-shaped jump hour it made for its 150th anniversary. Patek Philippe no longer makes this reference.
The movement is the manually wound calibre 32-650 HGS PS, 32.6 mm across and 6.50 mm high, with 438 parts and 75 jewels. At each full hour a hammer strikes the gong in step with the jump of the hour display; a small slide at 10 o'clock turns the strike on or off, and Patek notes a patented lifting lever that guards the system against mishandling. The calibre runs at 28,800 semi-oscillations an hour on a Gyromax® balance with a Spiromax® balance spring, for a power reserve of 48 to 53 hours, and carries the Patek Philippe Seal. The crown sets the minutes when turned one way and the hour display when turned the other.
For collectors
Patek ties the 5275 directly to its own history: the Reference 3969 was the tonneau-shaped jump hour of its 150th anniversary, and the 5275 repeats the idea for the 175th with a chiming hour and jumping minutes and seconds added.
Key details
Design and engineering
- Hour strike in passingA hammer strikes one blow on a gong at the top of each hour, at the same instant as the hour aperture jumps. The slide at 10 o'clock silences it; a patented lifting lever protects the mechanism against accidental mishandling.
- Jumping indicationsThe hour in its aperture, the minute and the second all advance in jumps rather than sweeping; Patek names the reference the Chiming Jump Hour.
- SettingWith the crown pulled out, turning it clockwise sets the minute hand and counterclockwise sets the hour display; Patek asks for the watch to be wound by hand before any setting.
