Overview
A minute repeater with a silent governor
The Jacob & Co. Palatial Tourbillon, reference PT500.40.NS.AC.A, in an 18-carat rose gold case, 43 mm across and 12.3 mm high. It has a red mineral dial, on a red alligator strap with an 18-carat rose gold pin buckle. This version is limited to 12 pieces.
Jacob & Co. introduced its first minute repeater in 2014 and describes this watch as a revisit of it, not simply a reissue. A slide in the caseband arms the repeater and supplies the energy for the strike. Hours sound as low notes, quarters alternate between high and low, and each remaining minute is a high note.
Hand-wound calibre JCCM04 has 308 components, 29 jewels and a 90-hour power reserve. Two hammers sound two gongs curved around the movement, and a centrifugal governor, re-engineered to run silently, keeps mechanical noise out of the chime. Jacob & Co. says the gongs are tuned by hand and given their final adjustment by ear.
