A W16 engine block and a tilted tourbillon
The Jacob & Co. Bugatti Chiron Tourbillon Baguette, reference BU800.30.AM.UA.A, in an 18-carat white gold and sapphire crystals case, 55 x 44 mm and 22 mm high. Its rhodium-plated dial has blue indices and a blue “EB” logo, on a blue openworked rubber strap with an 18-carat white gold deployant clasp. This version is a pièce unique.
Baguette-cut blue sapphires join the diamonds on the case and crowns, all invisibly set, and the clasp carries diamonds only. The skeleton hands are rhodium-plated with blue and luminescent tips, and the crowns and pusher are ceramic.
Jacob & Co. and Bugatti began their partnership in 2019, and the case takes its shapes from the Chiron: the horseshoe grille, the quarter glass and the headlights. Seven sapphire panels give a view of the movement. The automaton refers to Bugatti’s W16 engine block, a single block of transparent sapphire in which 16 pistons move up and down on one crankshaft.
Hand-wound calibre JCAM37 has 578 components, 51 jewels and a 60-hour power reserve, shown on a gauge shaped like a fuel gauge. The flying tourbillon turns once a minute, sits at an incline of 30 degrees and has no upper bridge. Jacob & Co. fits three crowns on the 6 o’clock flank rather than side crowns.
