Invisibly set stones around a flying tourbillon
The Jacob & Co. Brilliant Flying Tourbillon, reference BT546.40.BR.BR.A, in an 18-carat rose gold case, 47 mm across and 14.65 mm high. Its case and dial are invisibly set with baguette-cut rubies, on a green alligator leather strap with an 18-carat rose gold butterfly deployant buckle. This version is limited to 18 pieces.
Jacob & Co. introduced the Brilliant collection for women in 2017. The cases are round and have no lugs, and the strap is fixed directly to the case. The case is shaped like a pebble, and Jacob & Co. says its rounded edges give the collection its brilliance. Jacob & Co. says it sets stones only by the invisible technique, so no prongs or visible metal interrupt the surface.
Hand-wound calibre JCAM43 shows hours and minutes with a one-minute flying tourbillon. A flying tourbillon is held only from its base, so there is no upper bridge. The tourbillon keeps the escapement spinning, which counters the effect of gravity on accuracy. The movement is set with 252 brilliant-cut diamonds.
