Gems set without visible metal
The Jacob & Co. Brilliant Baguette, reference BA521.30.BI.BI.A, in an 18-carat white gold case, 38 mm across and 10 mm high. Its 18-carat white gold dial is invisibly set with 152 icy-blue baguette-cut sapphires, on a white satin strap with an 18-carat white gold pin buckle.
Jacob & Co. introduced the Brilliant collection for women in 2017. The case is round, has no lugs and takes the strap directly. Jacob & Co. says that on the Baguette it chose only the baguette cut for the gems, invisibly set.
The setting is built from the metal. A jeweller forms T-shaped anchoring beams on the dial or case, and the long side of each baguette is grooved so it snaps onto them. The stones sit tight against their neighbours and no metal shows. Self-winding calibre JCAA04 has a 48-hour power reserve and shows hours and minutes. This version is limited to 18 pieces.
