Overview
A vertical platform that turns every 20 minutes
The Jacob & Co. Astronomia Sky, reference AT110.40.AA.WD.A, in an 18-carat rose gold case with a single-block sapphire caseband, 47 mm across and 25 mm high. It has a titanium openworked hour and minute dial, on a black alligator leather strap with an 18-carat rose gold deployant clasp. This version is limited to 18 pieces.
A 1 ct, 288-facet Jacob-cut white diamond serves as the moon and completes a turn on its axis every 60 seconds.
In 2014 Jacob Arabo turned his interest in space into the Astronomia concept, a planetary system modelled at wrist scale. Astronomia Sky takes the idea further. A vertical platform rises from the back plate and turns on its axis in 20 minutes, and its motion drives the movement’s functions. An Earth globe on the platform is half covered, so it shows whether sunlight reaches a part of the planet, and it turns in 24 hours as a day and night indicator.
Hand-wound calibre JCAM11 has 395 components and a 60-hour power reserve. The tourbillon hangs from one satellite arm in an openworked carriage that turns on two axes, in 60 seconds and in 5 minutes. The platform’s 20-minute rotation adds the third. On another arm a differential system turns the hour and minute dial against the platform at the same speed, so it stays upright. The back plate turns once in 365.25 days for the sidereal display, and an orbital second shaped like a spacecraft circles in 60 seconds.
