Overview
Miniature scenes on a static vertical movement
The Jacob & Co. Astronomia Art, reference AT102.40.AA.UC.A, in an 18-carat rose gold and sapphire crystal case, 50 mm across and 25 mm high. Its titanium dial carries landmark buildings in 3D, on a black alligator strap with an 18-carat rose gold deployant buckle. This version is a pièce unique.
On this version the second tourbillon cage turns in 5 minutes, and the diamond and globe each turn on their own axis in 60 seconds. The four buildings are hand-engraved and hand-painted in 3D.
Astronomia Art takes the vertical Astronomia movement and holds it still, so that large miniature figures and scenes can stand between its four arms. Jacob & Co. says its craftspeople make, finish and paint the miniatures by hand. The dial is off-centre and sits at the end of one arm.
Hand-wound calibre JCAM25 has 384 components and a 60-hour power reserve. A double-axis flying tourbillon hangs from the end of one arm, held in an openworked carriage by a single attachment point. A 1 ct diamond moon and a blue-lacquered magnesium globe also turn on their own axes.
