Overview
A solar system turning on a vertical platform
The Jacob & Co. Astronomia Solar Zodiac, reference AS910.40.BD.UB.A, in an 18-carat rose gold case, 44 mm across and 21 mm high. Its base and lugs are set with 382 icy blue baguette sapphires (≈8.74 ct) and 76 white diamonds (≈4.84 ct), on a blue alligator strap with a rose gold clasp. This version is a pièce unique.
The base and lugs carry icy blue sapphires alongside white diamonds, and the clasp matches the rose gold case.
Jacob Arabo introduced the Astronomia concept in 2014, turning his interest in space into a watch. Here a vertical platform rises from the dial and makes a full turn every 10 minutes. Satellite arms carry the tourbillon, the time dial and the planets.
The hour and minute dial hangs at the end of one arm. As the platform turns, a differential system spins the dial the opposite way at the same speed, so the Zodiac signs stay upright and readable. Hand-wound calibre JCAM19 has 447 components and a 48-hour power reserve. Its flying tourbillon hangs from another arm and turns in 60 seconds; carried by the platform, it gains a second axis with a 10-minute period. An Earth globe turns in 60 seconds.
