Overview
A solar system turning on a vertical platform
The Jacob & Co. Astronomia Solar Zodiac, reference AS310.21.SP.AA.A, in a black DLC titanium case with sapphire apertures on the sides, 44 mm across and 21 mm high. Its blue PVD dial has rose gold-plated Zodiac engravings, on a dark blue alligator leather strap with a black DLC titanium deployment clasp. This version is limited to 18 pieces.
Jacob Arabo introduced the Astronomia concept in 2014, turning his interest in space into a watch. Here a vertical platform rises from the dial and makes a full turn every 10 minutes. Satellite arms carry the tourbillon, the time dial and the planets.
The hour and minute dial hangs at the end of one arm. As the platform turns, a differential system spins the dial the opposite way at the same speed, so the Zodiac signs stay upright and readable. Hand-wound calibre JCAM19 has 447 components, 43 jewels and a 48-hour power reserve. Its flying tourbillon hangs from another arm and turns in 60 seconds; carried by the platform, it gains a second axis with a 10-minute period. An Earth globe turns in 60 seconds.
