Overview
The first Vagabondage
The F.P. Journe Vagabondage, reference V, in platinum set with 46 baguette diamonds (about 6.50 carats), the Flat Tortue case 41 × 34 mm and 6.7 mm high, with the slate grey dial and a platinum folding clasp set with 18 baguette diamonds. Manually wound calibre 1504 in 18K rose gold.
The Vagabondage was produced between 2004 and 2006 as a limited edition of 69 pieces in platinum, with 10 more in platinum set with baguette diamonds. Before it came three pieces made for the 30th anniversary of Antiquorum in 2004, in white, yellow and 6N gold with brass movements and no signature on the dial, the proceeds going to the ICM Foundation. The series takes its name from its wandering digital display and from its case, the registered Flat Tortue shape, a departure from F.P. Journe's usual round case.
The time is read without hands. The hour appears as a numeral in a window that travels around the dial, and the window's position gives the minutes. The dial is slate grey: a sapphire disc carrying the aperture, inside an outer dial of screwed steel elements. Behind it is calibre 1504, a hand-wound movement in 18K rose gold shaped to the case, with two barrels and a central annular balance with 14 screws.

Reading the time is the design: there is no minute hand, only the position of the travelling hour window; the brand names the watch Vagabondage for that wandering display and for its case shape.
