The titanium Octa Sport
The F.P. Journe Octa Sport, reference ARS, in titanium on the titanium bracelet, both with rubber inserts, with the aluminium alloy and sapphire dial and luminescent indexes and numbers. 42 mm and 11.6 mm high, self-winding Octa calibre 1300.3 in aluminium alloy, with a large date and day and night indication.
F.P. Journe produced the titanium Octa Sport, which it calls the Octa Automatique Réserve Sport Titane, between 2014 and 2018. In the brand's account the lineSport was inspired by a collector of its watches who ran marathons and triathlons and wanted a very light sports watch with a movement of high horology. This version has a titanium case around the Octa movement in aluminium alloy, and the brand puts its weight at around 60 grams on the rubber bracelet.
The Octa calibre 1300.3 is made here in aluminium alloy, a movement reserved for the lineSport; F.P. Journe says moving from the 18K rose gold of its other movements was difficult, and that it worked on the colour of the aluminium as well. The architecture is the Octa's: a free-sprung balance with four adjustable inertia weights beating at 21,600 vibrations an hour, an off-centre rotor with a tungsten segment winding in one direction, and a reserve of 160 ± 10 hours read at 10:30.
For collectors
By the brand's account the collection was inspired by one client, who wanted a watch light enough for marathons and triathlons that did not give up a high-horology movement. That brief explains the choices here, titanium for the case and aluminium alloy for the movement, rather than a gold calibre in a light case.
