An Octa in aluminium
The F.P. Journe Octa Sport Indy 500, reference ARS, in blackened aluminium alloy with rubber inserts, with the blackened aluminium alloy and sapphire dial, luminescent indexes and appliqué numerals. 42 mm and 11.6 mm high, self-winding calibre 1300.3 with large date and power reserve.
F.P. Journe made the Octa Sport Indy 500 to commemorate Jean Alesi's entry in the Indianapolis 500-mile race: 99 pieces, numbered 501 to 599, produced between 2012 and 2013. It is based on the Octa Sport and made in an aluminium alloy used in aeronautics, with a blackened case and a black dial carrying the F.P. Journe Invenit et Fecit signature. Complete, the watch weighs 53 grams.
The movement is calibre 1300.3 built in aluminium alloy, which F.P. Journe describes as reserved for its lineSport models; it keeps the Octa's automatic winding and variable-inertia balance. The brand developed treatments to make the aluminium scratch-resistant, corrosion-resistant and anti-allergic. Rubber inserts on the sides of the case take knocks in the way the bumpers of old cars did, and the crown and the engraved folding clasp are rubber-coated. The dial shows central hours and minutes, small seconds, a large date and the power reserve.

Weight is the point of the build: case, dial and movement are all aluminium alloy, and F.P. Journe gives the complete watch as 53 grams.
