Dials from two gun barrels
The F.P. Journe Chronomètre Holland & Holland, reference CHH, in steel on a leather strap, with a browned Damascus steel dial cut from one of two antique Holland & Holland gun barrels and ivory-coloured steel hands. 39 mm and 8.6 mm high, manually wound calibre 1304 in 18K rose gold.
The Chronomètre Holland & Holland, produced in 2017 and 2018, came from a partnership between F.P. Journe and the gunmaker Holland & Holland, and its dials from two antique Holland & Holland Damascus steel gun barrels, each more than a hundred years old. Barrel No. 1382, of 1868, gave 38 dials; barrel No. 7183, of 1882, gave 28. Those dials exist in no other watch, and the series was offered to F.P. Journe and Holland & Holland collectors by application.
The barrels were cut along their length at the Holland & Holland factory, rolled flat, cut into strips, cleaned, polished and thinned, then sent to Les Cadraniers de Genève, F.P. Journe's own dialmakers, to be cut out. The dials went back to Holland & Holland for browning, the gunmaker's treatment that protects the steel and brings out the pattern formed when the barrel was made, so no two dials are alike. Behind the dial is calibre 1304 in 18K rose gold, engraved Holland & Holland, with two barrels in parallel and a free-sprung balance.

The series has no round edition number: its size was set by how many dials each barrel yielded, 38 from No. 1382 and 28 from No. 7183.
