Overview
One pusher, a split hand and a large date
The F.P. Journe Chronographe Rattrapante, reference CMS, in grade 5 titanium on the titanium bracelet, with the slate grey aluminium-alloy dial, applied luminescent numerals and sapphire counters. 44 mm and 12.1 mm high; manually wound calibre 1518 in aluminium alloy, a single-pusher split-seconds chronograph with a very large date.
The Chronographe Rattrapante of the lineSport collection is a hand-wound split-seconds chronograph with a single chronograph pusher and a very large date, in a 44 mm case 12.1 mm high with a tachymetric bezel inlaid with ceramic. The movement is in aluminium alloy, on a bracelet in the case metal. The brand says the movement was inspired by the chronograph it made for Only Watch 2017, and that the ceramic bezel and the new numeral typography recall that piece.
Calibre 1518 engages its chronograph through direct gearing with a rocking pinion, which the brand says avoids the jump of the hand at the start. One pusher at 2 o'clock starts, stops and returns the chronograph to zero; the pusher at 4 o'clock is the rattrapante, the split-seconds. Both pushers are in the case metal. The very large date, in a window of 5.20 × 2.80 mm for legibility, is corrected from the crown in position 2, with winding in position 1 and time setting in position 3. The development the brand singles out was holding all of this, split-seconds and date, within a movement 6.80 mm high, a height it treats as its signature. The reserve is 80 hours without the chronograph running, which the brand says leaves the split-seconds usable after two days. The balance is free-sprung on four inertia weights with an Anachron spring on a Nivatronic collet, at 21,600 vibrations an hour.
For collectors
The pusher layout is the tell. A two-pusher chronograph carries one either side of the crown; here the 2 o'clock pusher does all three chronograph functions and the 4 o'clock pusher only splits, so the case reads as a monopusher with a rattrapante. The movement is aluminium alloy, and the brand puts the whole watch at around 81 grams.

- Direct gearing, rocking pinionThe chronograph is engaged through a rocking pinion on direct gearing, which, in the brand's account, removes the jump of the hand at the start.
- Very large dateA window of 5.20 × 2.80 mm, for legibility; corrected in crown position 2. Fitting it within a 6.80 mm movement is the development the brand singles out.
- Case and bracelet44 mm and 12.1 mm high, tachymetric bezel inlaid with ceramic. Bracelet in the case metal, with articulated links at the case and a folding clasp adjustable by about 5 mm.
