A split-seconds with a very large date
The F.P. Journe Chronographe Rattrapante, reference CM, in 18K 6N gold on the matching bracelet, matte hammered, with the ruthenium-covered guilloché silver dial, 5N gold numerals and whitened silver counters. 44 mm and 12.1 mm high, hand-wound split-seconds calibre 1518 in 18K rose gold, with a very large date.
F.P. Journe says the movement of the Chronographe Rattrapante was inspired by the chronograph it made for Only Watch 2017, and the ceramic-inlaid tachymeter bezel and the new typography of the numerals recall that piece. This execution, in a 44 mm case 12.1 mm high, was produced between 2018 and 2023 in the brand's account. Calibre 1518 is hand-wound, made in 18K rose gold, and by the brand's account assembled from start to finish by a single watchmaker.
The chronograph is coupled by direct gearing through a rocking pinion, which the brand uses to stop the hand jumping at the start. The pusher at 2 o'clock starts, stops and returns the chronograph to zero; the pusher at 4 o'clock works the rattrapante, the split-seconds hand. The very large date, in a window of 5.20 × 2.80 mm, is fitted into a movement 6.80 mm high, which F.P. Journe describes as a substantial development. The reserve is 80 ± 2 hours without the chronograph, enough, in the brand's words, to use the chronograph and rattrapante efficiently after two days.

The date is what sets this chronograph apart from a conventional split-seconds: F.P. Journe treats fitting a very large date into a total movement height of 6.80 mm as the difficult part of the calibre, and the result shows on the dial as a 5.20 × 2.80 mm window.
