The calibre 1499.2 Résonance
The F.P. Journe Chronomètre à Résonance Black Label, reference RN, in platinum with the blackened gold dial and whitened guilloché silver sub-dials. 40 mm and 9.1 mm high, manually wound calibre 1499.2 in 18K rose gold, with two balances beating in resonance and two time displays set from one crown.
The Black Label execution puts calibre 1499.2 in a 40 mm platinum case with a blackened gold dial, whitened guilloché silver sub-dials and blued and rhodium-plated steel hands. F.P. Journe created the Black Label collection for people who already own one of its watches, sold it only in its boutiques and Espaces, and gives this model's production as 2006 to 2010.
F.P. Journe presented its first Résonance wristwatch in 2000 under the registered name Résonance®. The brand places the idea in a line running from Christiaan Huygens through the twin-pendulum regulators of Antide Janvier and Abraham-Louis Breguet, and describes its watch as the only wristwatch to use natural resonance with no mechanical transmission. Journe spent fifteen years adapting the principle to the wrist.
Two escapements and two free-sprung balances sit side by side, with no gearing between them. As with Janvier's pendulums hung from one structure, each balance takes up the energy the other dissipates and the pair settle into one beat, which Journe judged well suited to the knocks a watch meets on the wrist. The crown sets the left, 24-hour dial when turned one way and the right, 12-hour dial when turned the other; two small seconds sit at 6 o'clock and the power reserve at 11.
For collectors
Journe's account begins with a fault: a pendulum clock could stop of its own accord when its pendulum fell into resonance with its driving weight. Janvier's regulators turned that interaction into a coupling, and calibre 1499.2 does the same between two balances.
