Overview
A monobloc tonneau case, reissued
The Vacheron Constantin Historiques 222, reference 4200H/222J-B935, in 18K yellow gold with a gold-toned dial and lime green SuperLuminova® markers, on the yellow gold bracelet with its triple folding clasp. Self-winding calibre 2455/2 with hours, minutes and an aperture date; 37 mm, 7.95 mm high, certified to the Hallmark of Geneva.
This execution is the same Historiques 222 monobloc tonneau case and calibre 2455/2 movement as the steel reference, in 18K yellow gold, with a gold-toned dial rather than blue and a yellow gold bracelet; the page's own Closing system row does not name the triple folding clasp's metal.
The reference 4200H/222 is Vacheron Constantin's Historiques 222, a modern remake the brand credits as reviving a 1970s design, offered here in two case metals: stainless steel with a blue mat-finished dial, and 18K yellow gold with a gold-toned dial. The case is a monobloc tonneau shape, cut in one piece with the bracelet built into it, and carries a Maltese cross at 5 o'clock; it measures 37 mm across and 7.95 mm high, with a sapphire case back showing the self-winding movement and its own oscillating weight. Both dials carry a date window at 3 o'clock and 18K gold baton-type hands and straight hour-markers highlighted in lime green SuperLuminova®.
Inside is the self-winding calibre 2455/2: 26.2 mm across, 3.6 mm high, with 194 parts and 27 jewels, running at 28,800 V.P.H. (4 Hz) for a stated 40-hour power reserve, and a balance-stop function alongside the hours, minutes and date. Both executions are worn on a bracelet in their own case metal, polished and satin-finished, closed by a triple folding clasp. The watch carries the Hallmark of Geneva; the brand's own account places the mark's origin in 1886, when Geneva's Republic and Canton created it as a guarantee of finishing standard, and says it now stands for the watch's origin, workmanship and reliability rather than one technical figure.
For collectors
The yellow gold execution of this reference shares the same case size, case thickness and calibre 2455/2 movement -- the two differ in case metal, dial colour and bracelet, useful to know when comparing across the 222 family's self-winding pieces.
