Overview
A retrograde date beside a 122-year moon
The Vacheron Constantin Overseas Moon Phase Retrograde Date, reference 4000V/210A-B911, in stainless steel with a sunburst blue dial and 18K gold moon discs, on the steel bracelet with its triple folding clasp. Self-winding calibre 2460 R31L/2 with retrograde date and precision moon phase; 41 mm, 10.48 mm high, certified to the Hallmark of Geneva.
The reference 4000V/210A-B911 is Vacheron Constantin's Overseas Moon Phase Retrograde Date, in stainless steel, which the brand's page pairs a precision moon phase with a retrograde date display it calls one of the Maison's own signatures. The dial shows two 18K gold moons against a starry sky, with the date read on a retrograde hand rather than through a window, and hour-markers and hands in 18K gold picked out with blue SuperLuminova®. The case is 41 mm across and 10.48 mm high, water-resistant to 50 m, with a transparent sapphire case back and an antimagnetic marking. The dial itself is sunburst satin-finished blue, with a circular satin-finished inner minute track and a velvet-finished outer one.
The self-winding calibre 2460 R31L/2 drives the retrograde date and the moon-phase display alongside the hours, minutes and a balance-stop function: 27.2 mm across, 5.4 mm high, with 275 parts and 27 jewels, running at 28,800 V.P.H. (4 Hz) for a stated 40-hour power reserve. The brand states that the moon display needs correcting only once every 122 years, attributing this to the movement's own construction rather than explaining the mechanism further. The watch is certified to the Hallmark of Geneva, which the brand's own account dates to 1886, when the Republic and Canton of Geneva established it as a mark of sound craftsmanship, reliability and provenance. The steel bracelet is closed by a matching triple folding clasp, and the watch ships with two further straps in dark blue leather and dark blue rubber, using a further triple folding clasp named as the third accessory in the specification table.
For collectors
The retrograde date and the moon-phase display share the dial without either needing an aperture -- the date sweeps back across a scale on a hand, and the moon runs on a 122-year correction interval the brand states outright, an unusually long span for a moon-phase mechanism.
