McLaren W1 edition on a black strap
This is the same reference as card 443 — the RM 65-01 McLaren W1, 500 pieces, released alongside McLaren’s W1 road car — photographed from a three-quarter angle and fitted with a black rubber strap rather than the papaya orange one. Richard Mille supplied the edition with both.
The case is Carbon TPT®, with a grade 5 titanium bezel beneath a second Carbon TPT® bezel, grade 5 titanium pusher protectors and a titanium crown part-coated in papaya orange rubber. Inside is the calibre RMAC4, the skeletonised automatic split-seconds chronograph shared across the RM 65-01 line.
The two cards are recorded separately, but they may well be a single record duplicated on strap colour. That is flagged for the owner.

Design and engineering
- Calibre RMAC4Skeletonised automatic winding movement with hours, minutes, seconds at 6 o’clock, date, split-seconds chronograph with a 30-minute counter at 3 o’clock and a 12-hour counter at 9 o’clock, function selector, rapid winding and variable-geometry rotor. It measures 31.78 × 29.98 mm by 8.69 mm thick, on 51 jewels at 36,000 vph (5 Hz), with around 60 hours (± 10%) of power reserve without the chronograph running.
- Split-seconds architectureTwo six-column wheels with a vertical clutch. The 5 Hz frequency allows elapsed times to be read to a tenth of a second. Richard Mille records shock and drop simulations, accelerated ten-year ageing of the functions, water-resistance testing and magnetic field trials for the chronograph.
- Movement mountingThe calibre sits on chassis mounting rubbers rather than being secured by a conventional casing ring.
- Rapid windingThe pusher at 8 o’clock rearms the barrel without using the crown.
- Function selectorOperated by a pusher at the centre of the crown rather than by pulling the crown out, with a hand at 4 o’clock showing W, D or H.
- Double bezelA satin-finished and polished grade 5 titanium bezel is topped with a second bezel in Carbon TPT®. Richard Mille records the construction as taking eight prototypes to perfect and as incorporating the brand’s thinnest titanium bezel to date, 0.50 mm at its thinnest point. The pusher protectors are microblasted and satin-finished grade 5 titanium.

- CaseTripartite Carbon TPT®, assembled with 12 grade 5 titanium spline screws and 316L stainless steel washers, sealed to 50 m by two nitrile O-rings.
- Carbon TPT® constructionThe composite is built from layers of parallel filaments divided from carbon fibre, each layer a maximum of 30 microns thick, impregnated with resin and woven so that the weft direction changes by 45° between plies before consolidation. Machining exposes the layering, so the pattern differs on every case.
