Overview

Titanium dive case with the first quarter of the minute track in red

The RM 032 was introduced in 2011 as Richard Mille’s diving chronograph, water resistant to 300 metres and built to ISO 6425. This execution has a satin-finished titanium fixed bezel and lug set, a grey unidirectional rotating bezel with a red triangle at 12 o’clock, and the first quarter of the minute track — the 5, 10 and 15 markings — printed in red, the arrangement Richard Mille specifies for legibility in murky water. A red crown locking ring and a red rubber strap complete it.

Beneath the sapphire dial the calibre RMAC2 drives a flyback chronograph with minutes and seconds counters and a 12-hour counter at 6 o’clock, an annual calendar with an oversize date at 12 o’clock and a month indicator between 4 and 5, and a running indicator at 3 o’clock.

Design and engineering

  • Flyback chronographThe pusher between 4 and 5 o’clock resets the running chronograph without first stopping it.
  • Annual calendarThe date numerals are formed from two discs with the digits cut out as positive stencils; the month appears in Arabic numerals between 4 and 5 o’clock. The date advances correctly through 30- and 31-day months, February excepted.
  • Running indicatorAt 3 o’clock, turning at 2 rpm, with alternating SuperLumiNova® and black sectors on the disc so that the movement can be confirmed running in daylight or darkness.
  • Patented locking crownRotating the crown ring immobilises the crown and pushers against accidental operation under water pressure — green index unlocked, red index locked.
  • Bezel assemblyThree layers held by 22 screws, rotating unidirectionally. The first quarter of the minute track is highlighted for underwater legibility.
  • Case productionA 1½-hour turning phase is followed by 830 operations across a nine-hour milling phase, an eleven-hour machining phase and an hour of quality control; the pushers, their components and the crown require a ten-day machining phase with repeated water-resistance testing.
