Overview
Round diver’s case at 300 metres with a carbon nanofibre tourbillon chronograph
The RM 025 departs from the Richard Mille tonneau because of a technical requirement: water resistance to 300 metres is only achievable at that depth with a round case. The case measures 50.70 mm in diameter and 19.20 mm at its thickest point.
Inside is the calibre RM025, a carbon nanofibre tourbillon chronograph based on the calibre RM 008. It combines a tourbillon with a chronograph, with hours, minutes, seconds, a 30-minute totaliser, a power-reserve indicator, and torque and function indicators. Development took more than five years.

Design and engineering
- Round case for depthThe round form was adopted because 300 metres of water resistance is not achievable in the brand’s tonneau shape. The tripartite case integrates the lugs into its torque screw system.
- Three-layer bezelThe bezel is built in three layers connected by 24 screws and turns unidirectionally, so a timing error cannot be introduced by turning it the wrong way. The whole bezel system is screwed to the case, making it impossible to loosen or dislocate inadvertently.
- Carbon nanofibre baseplateThe material, developed first for Richard Mille’s tourbillon wristwatches, makes its first appearance here in a diver’s watch.
- Titanium column wheel and leversProducing the column wheel and levers in titanium reduces inertia and lowers energy consumption by circa 50%, cutting friction on the spindle and removing the jump of the chronograph hand at start and stop.
- Torque-limiting crown and sealed pushersThe crown limits applied torque; the pushers use a design developed for watertightness at depth.
- Limited outputAssembly and testing take many months and only a small number of watchmakers can carry out the work, so few can be produced in a year.
