Overview

Two tourbillons joined back to back

The Jacob & Co. Mystery Tourbillon, reference SN800.30.BD.AE.B, in an 18-carat white gold case, 50 mm across and 25 mm high. Its hour and minute rings are set with white diamonds and 1 ruby each, on a green alligator leather strap with an 18-carat white gold folding clasp. This version is limited to 18 pieces.

The case and lugs carry 192 white diamonds. The inner ring combines 12 tsavorites with 108 white diamonds, and the two hands are set with rubies.

Jacob & Co. describes the watch as a double tribute. One half is to mystery clocks, which it credits to the 19th-century watchmaker Jean-Eugène Robert-Houdin. The other is to the tourbillon. Hours and minutes are shown on two concentric rings rather than on a conventional dial.

Hand-wound calibre JCAM32 has 430 components and a 50-hour power reserve. Its two tourbillons are coupled back to back, with a differential linking them, and sit in a deep pit at the centre of the watch. The tourbillon is flying, held on a single anchoring point, and turns on three axes with no upper bridge, in 60, 120 and 120 seconds.
